UPDATE: SAN DIEGUITO 10U BLUE FINISHES 2ND IN THE
STATE TOURNAMENT!

The San Dieguito 10U girls blue team having qualified at districts for the state tournament, represented themselves, and our league, very well at the state tournament, finishing 2nd!!! Please keep in mind, only 18 out of 72 teams qualify for the state tournament by placing in the top 3 in their district. The state tournament has a double elimination format and since San Dieguito lost their first game on Friday, July 13, they had to win 8 games in a row to win the state tournament. If they got to the championship game, they would have to beat the first place team (who had not lost yet) twice to win the whole thing. After winning 6 games in a row, they found themselves having to beat Valley Mesa twice in the championship game. After beating them 1-0 in our 5th game of the day (our 5th straight win that day and 7th straight win for the tournament), they ended having to play them again in their 6th straight game of the day. In a hard fought championship game, San Dieguito was down 3-1 in the bottom of the last inning and managed to tie the game 3-3, and, had bases loaded with no outs. Valley Mesa played a superb game (as did SD) and were able to cleanly field three grounders and make the play home for the force out on our next 3 batters. The game then went to extra innings using an international tie-breaker format and SD ended up losing 4-3. A very competitive, well played, and hard fought pair of championship games. Please note, the girls played 6 straight games on Sunday (July 15th) with only 15 minute breaks in between, starting at 8:00 A.M. and ending at 7:30 P.M. The eventual first place team and a very worthy opponent ("Valley Mesa" from La Mesa, CA) played 3 games that day (2 against San Dieguito). In the process, the San Dieguito All Star team beat five of the tournament's district champions and went 1 win and 1 loss against the eventual state tournament champions. We are very proud of the players, coaches, parent helpers, parents, siblings, board members, etc., who's support, effort, and dedication made this all possible. It was truly an amazing season and we look forward to making a splash again at the district and state tournaments in 2008. Go SD!!!

Thanks to John Condos for the summary.

San Dieguito 10U 2nd place North San Diego District.

Congratulations to our 10U All Stars who placed 2nd in the Carlsbad Seebreeze Tournament

San Dieguito chooses the players for its All-Star teams based on a tryout where coaches judge the young ladies on specific skills.  The 2007 All-Star tryout times will be announced later.  Players should arrive one hour early for check-in.  A player may attend only one tryout per ASA rules.  It is highly advised that players make all efforts to attend this tryout.  All-Star teams cannot begin practice until May 1, per ASA rules.

Any player in a division may tryout for All-Stars.  In 2003, SDYS modified its rules to allow a player who competes in a higher recreational division to “drop down” to their appropriate age division for All-Stars.  For example, a player on a 12u rec team can try out for the 10u All-Star team if she is age eligible. In the beginning of April, coaches will pass out to their players an All-Star tryout form that includes information on tournament dates and an insurance waiver.  Both the player and a parent must sign this form.  The All-Star experience begins with the first tournament held in late May 2007 and continues with tournament play each weekend through the “C” District Qualifier, which will probably be held the last weekend in June, 2007.

It is SDYS’ policy to field as many All-Star tournament teams as possible, based on the number of players trying out, their skills in their respective division, and the commitment of coaches.

During the tryout, two representatives from each recreational team will “score” players on specific skills. The top eight scoring players automatically make the team.  The All-Star head coach then chooses the remaining players.  All-Star teams are limited to a maximum of 14 players, although most teams have 12. If a division has enough players and coaches for two teams, the next eight highest-scoring players make the second team after the first team has been completely picked.  The "B" team’s coach then chooses the remaining players to fill out the roster of the second team.

Head Coach Selection Process

Head Coaches must be ASA certifed. Requests to be a head coach must be put in writing (simple email will do) and submitted to the Board of Directors for Board vote and approval.
The head coach chooses his/her staff.
