Application
The Sterling Development Corporation (a Encinitas-based real estate investment/development company) believes that outstanding people possess superior leadership and personal achievement in all aspects of their lives. To recognize these outstanding individuals, they have created and endowed the "Sterling Award," to be awarded to the San Dieguito Youth Softball player who demonstrates superior athletic ability during the Spring Season and, more importantly, who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and community involvement.
The Award
1. A 500.00 U.S savings bond;
2. A distinguished trophy recognizing this achievement
3. A $100 donation made by the Sterling Development Corporation on behalf of the winner to Bob Stonebreaker's Free Flight Foundation
Application Process
1. Submit an Application
2. Write an essay that describes why that player feels she should be considered for the Award.
3. Provide a copy of the player's most recent report card from her school.
4. Provide 2 letters of recommendation; one from the player's teacher or school official, and one from a community, church or civic leader.
5.Mail completed applications and letter of recommendation to:

6. For 2010, applications must be postmarked by April 25th.
Selection Process
All applications will be reviewed by the Sterling Award Selection Committee. This committee will be comprised of 5 members: 4 representatives from SDYS as selected by its Board of Directors. These four shall be an active Head Coach from each division ( 8U,10U,12U and 14U); and 1 representative from Sterling Development Corporation.
The Sterling Award Selection Committee will review all applications and select the finalists( the top 3-5 applications). The Board of Directors will select the Sterling Award winner from these finalists. The winner of the Sterling Award will be announced by a representative of Sterling Development Corporation at the Closing Day Ceremonies of the Spring Season.
Eligibility
An SDYS player must participate in at least 75% of her Spring Team's games and she must play on an 8U, 10U, 12U or 14U team.
