The Wofford family is well known for its involvement with youth sports in the Encinitas community. Brian, a local chiropractor, coached in San Dieguito when it was under the Bobby Sox banner. His wife, Teresa, was a cheerful presence and a positive influence for the young ladies while in the dug-out, on the sidelines, and in the snack bar.
Tragically, Teresa Wofford died unexpectedly at the age of 33. Her passing stunned the softball community. In her memory, San Dieguito Youth Softball each season awards one special trophy to a player chosen as the team's most inspirational person. Team members in a secret ballot choose the Wofford Award winner, which is then honored during the Closing Day ceremonies.
