Fall Ball provides an opportunity for girls to stay active in organized softball for the Fall season. Divisions are open to girls in T-Ball, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U age groups. The 2018 season will run from September through mid-November and includes a season-ending tournament. All teams will practice once each week and play game(s) on Sunday.
Two types of teams will be formed. "Select" teams that play double headers and regular teams that play one game each Sunday. Select teams will consist of advanced/experienced players, for example, players who have previously played on All-Star or Spring Select teams, or experienced players looking for more playing time. Regular teams are great for fall players of all skill levels - from new to advanced!

What is the Cost For Fall Ball?
The 2018 Fall registration fee is $125 per player ($50 for T-Ball) and includes: a uniform top, USA Softball registration, insurance, umpire fees, and a standard picture package. Select Team registration fees are $25 more - $150 total - the difference will be assessed after teams are formed. Scholarships are available and awarded based on financial need. Select Teams vs Regular
Fall Ball is open to players of all skill levels from beginning to advanced, ages 5-14+ (see age chart below). The majority of Fall Ball games are played in Cardiff. T-Ball and 8U divisions will have single games each Sunday, while older divisions may have some double headers. (Note: All 14U teams will have double headers throughout North County, but is open to all skill levels and will not have mandatory evaluations.)
Select Teams (North County Winter Ball) are geared for more advanced players, for example, players who have played All Stars, Spring Select, or experienced players with advanced skills. Regular teams are open to all skill levels, from brand new players to advanced.
Our goal is to form at least one 10U and 12U Select Team from the top players in their respective divisions depending on interest and skill level of those that are interested. The team selection committee will select teams from players attending workouts that are being held at Cardiff Sports Park on Sunday August 12 and Sunday August 19 from 10:30AM-12:30PM. All SDYS Fall Ball Players are welcome to attend regardless of their interest in the Select Team, but for players that want to be considered for a Select Team, the workouts are MANDATORY. If you can not attend at least one workout, please contact Brian Zeglen at email@example.com.
All Fall teams are formed by the Player Selection Committee which takes many factors into account when forming teams.
Fall Select teams play double headers every Sunday with games throughout North San Diego County. If your child is interested in playing on a Select team please indicate this when registering, and plan to attend the mandatory workouts / evaluations.
What is the appropriate division for my player?
Divisions for 2018 are based on the player's year of birth as shown below. Players that will be moving up a division in Spring 2019 (players with birthdays on odd numbered years) are strongly recommended to play the Fall season in the division that they will be age-appropriate for Spring 2019. For example, 2005 birthdates play in 14U, 2007 = 12U, 2009 = 10U and 2011 = 8U. Any requests to "stay down" in the division they played in during Spring need board approval. When Does the Season Start?
Fall Ball teams will be formed and practices will begin in late August or early September. Mandatory Select team workouts are on Sunday August 12 and Sunday August 19 from 10:30AM-12:00PM. Games for all teams will begin on September 9.
Where are Games and Practices?
Practices and home games will be held at Cardiff Sports Park or Encinitas Community Park. In Fall, many games are played against other leagues, and some games will be held at other parks in North San Diego County. Select teams typically have more away games than Fall Ball. T-Ball teams meet on Sundays only with 45 minutes of practice followed by a 45 minute game each week.
How Long is the Fall Season?
The season is approximately 9-10 weeks and will conclude in mid-November.
What Equipment is Needed?
Players need to provide: Softball glove, batting helmet with face guard, pants, cleats and bat.
Fielding masks are highly recommended for all players 8U and older, especially pitchers and infielders.
Sliding pads or shorts are recommended for players 10U and older.
SDYS provides some team bats for T-Ball and 8U. The league supplies basic equipment including balls, catcher's gear and a limited number of pitcher's masks, however, you may choose to purchase these on your own.
