Hello SDYS Families,
We hope that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend! Now that your turkey coma has hopefully subsided, it's time to start thinking about Spring Softball!
With the ongoing COVID pandemic, obviously things are very fluid. At this time, we expect to be able to start the Spring Season in late January or early February with team practices following a defined set of COVID protocols under state and local guidelines. SDYS has been safely holding team practices since mid-summer and into the Fall with a successful season.
While state and local restrictions currently prevent youth sports from holding inter-team scrimmages and games, the California Department of Public Health has issued guidelines which allow for softball teams to play Inter-Team games once our county returns back to the "Red" COVID tier. As soon as we are able to play games, we will. Until then, teams are able to practice with safety protocols in place.
Due to the uncertainty of when we will be able to play any games (umpire fees make up a significant portion of the league's costs), we have opted to reduce the registration fee for the 8-14U divisions to $125 for the 2021 Spring Season. 6U is just $50. There is a chance we may have to charge additional fees should we be able to play more games than expected.
While we are still working out some details regarding team formation, we are look to honor as many friend requests as possible. So make sure you note any friend requests during registration and also remind your friends to register!
In lieu of inter-team games, we expect to be coordinating a set of Team Challenges. These team challenges are designed to test specific softball skills of each team and provided an outlet to get some competition in a safe and socially distanced manner. Our Fall Team Challenges proved to be a great success across all age divisions!
